Hello all,

I forward this from the Cockburn Association to the effect that they will
not be hosting the Edinburgh Doors Open Day in 2022. As you know Friends of
Newington Cemetery prior to covid regularly participated in guided and
information events during Doors Open Day drawing on our social and natural
history, but covid frustrated our approach. We shall keep an eye on what
might emerge for next year and in the meantime will carry on with our
working parties and trying to rebuild and expand our team of helpers and
thinking about what else we might do. Offers and ideas welcome.

Best wishes,

Tony

Subject: Edinburgh & East Lothian Doors Open Days 2022 postponement

Dear DOD participant
I hope that this finds you well, and on course to recovering from Covid and
any pressures it has placed on your venue and your business.

It is on this theme that I am writing to you. The pressures of Covid and
its impact on charitable giving and support has taken its toll on the
Cockburn. We have struggled over many years to resource the delivery of
Doors Open Days Edinburgh & East Lothian. The creation of a digital
programme over the past two DODs stretched all of us but was a fantastic
effort with superb material produced by many.

However, after 32 years of delivering DOD at considerable cost to the
Cockburn, we have reached the point where our financial deficits have
required us to reign back on activities. After long and difficult
discussions, our Trustees have concluded that we need to take a sabbatical
from DOD in 2022.

I appreciate that this will be a disappointment to many of you who were
planning to participate this year. It certainly is for us. We do plan to
use this break to consider how we can come back in 2023 with a reinvigorated
grassroots celebration of the local built and natural heritage, which is our
intent. We will be in contact in due course regarding such plans as they
emerge.

Needless to say, we will be continuing with our other activities including
the promotion of the City¹s heritage but in slightly different ways than
before.

In the meantime, many thanks for sharing your great venues with us. Please
do keep in touch. If we can help with any plans you are developing, we
certainly will try.

Yours sincerely,
