Hello,

EWH and the Friends of New Calton Burial Ground are hosting a lime training workshop in the Burial Ground to provide participants with an understanding of the use of lime and hands on experience of lime pointing. The workshop will be delivered by the Scottish Lime Centre and the will take place on:
Session 1: Introductory talk + preparing surfaces - Thursday, 28 September - evening
Session 2: Mixing lime and applying - Saturday, 30 September - all day session
Session 3: Finishing off + Q & A session - Sunday, 1 October - late morning until lunchtime

The workshop is free to attend (volunteers will need to come to all three sessions) but spaces are limited. No previous experience is necessary and the workshop is open to all. Please could you let me know if any of your members would be interested in attending before September 1.

It is important to use the right materials and methods to repair historic stone structures. This workshop is specially design to increase participants interest and knowledge and to give them basic skills in lime pointing. In particular we want to help non-specialist to increase their confidence in specifying and checking lime repairs, to encourage volunteers' on-going involvement with caring for historic masonry with Edinburgh graveyards and the Edinburgh World Heritage Site.

Happy to answer any questions that you might have or to discuss the workshop over the phone.
I look forward to hearing from you

All good wishes
Susan
