[WGNC] FW: CEC Cemetery Management Rules

Dear all,

As Friends of Newington Cemetery functions as a sub-group of GPCC, within
the family of CEC Cemetery Friends Groups, I forward the following email,
with particular reference to proposed new management rules for CEC
cemeteries.  These rules are intended to govern general conduct and
behaviour in cemeteries and are to be submitted tomorrow to the CEC Culture
and Communities Committee.  On a quick read, the rules as drafted seem clear
and commonsense, including control of dogs and car parking.   As always the
issue will be resources for enforcement.  Rules about burial arrangements
and memorials are being included in the contractual conditions of sale
governing right of burial and procedures.   I am also forwarding this email
to the cemetery Working Group.

Subject:  Cemetery Management Rules

Dear Friends of Cemetery Groups
 
Over the last two years there has been some discussion regarding Cemetery
Management Rules. It had been hoped these could be introduced at the same
time as the Friends of Cemetery Groups guidance last year. The proposed
rules will go to Committee on Tuesday which, if approved, will trigger a
minimum 4 week public notification phase. Here is a link to the committee

Due to a reorganisation I shall be leaving the Council soon so Jane Matheson
Bereavement Services Operational Manager will pilot the rules through the
next stages of the process. It has been lovely working with you all and I am
very grateful for the positive difference that you have all made to our
cemeteries and graveyards. I¹m looking forward to see that manifest itself
in a Spring bloom of colour from all the bulbs you kindly planted. Thank
you.
